Now that summer is here it is very likely that your children will be spending more time playing outside. Which also means that in no time, your garage will turn into a pile of swim things, sports gear, toys, and who knows what else. These tips will help you create a garage organization system for summer!
Garage Organization for Summer
Sports Gear and Swim Things
Any sports mom can tell you that all that gear is always all over the place! The sport your child plays can change how you want to store those items. One Crazy House suggests a series of cubbies.
Repurpose an old bookshelf or build your own garage cubbies. Love that it provides storage for shoes, helmets and other smaller pieces of equipment.
For taller things like hockey sticks or bats, a track system is an excellent solution. Hang those things so you can stop tripping over them!
A simple solution for all the balls is a large plastic tub, or even a laundry basket. Make a game to see how many “baskets” your children can make while cleaning up. That’s a win win!
Outdoor Toys
Some toys are just hard to corral. When they are small in size, or there are lots of them it can be difficult to decide where to put them all. The folks at Domestic Charm suggest using buckets to store all those toys that end up all over the place.
I loved the idea of having buckets for all the little outside toys that can get scattered all over the yard. I used my silhouette machine to cut black vinyl labels for each bucket.
What a great way to store things like bubbles, remote control cars, sidewalk chalk, not to mention all the nerf guns and darts!
Bikes and Helmets
Bikes are notoriously difficult to store. They take up so much floor space and create a minefield when walking through the garage. The Family Handyman has several bike storage suggestions.
One of the easiest and least expensive ways to store you bike is with good old-fashioned heavy-duty rubberized hooks made to screw into a stud or rafter. Hang bikes with one hook for vertical bicycle storage, and two hooks placed a bike’s width apart for horizontal storage.
Don’t forget to consider dedicating some storage space for your helmets. Hooks work great for those as well. Once those bikes and helmets are up off the floor you will be amazed at how much more space you have!
